Since at least 2022, everyone who writes or reads has been forced to consider hard questions about the role of writing in the era of Generative AI. John Warner, author, columnist, podcast regular, and editor emeritus at McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, offers a nuanced take in his most recent book, More than Words: How to Think About Writing in the Age of AI. This widely praised popular-press book invites readers to think differently about the changes that generative AI brings to writing processes and practices, and to reconnect the activity of writing to meaning and thinking, two areas of human understanding that are, at present, impervious to AI technologies.
Each session will address different research questions and core topics, and can be attended individually or in sequence as a series. Sessions will include a discussion of suggested chapters, but reading is not required (no guilt or apologies necessary)!
The reading group will meet monthly on Friday mornings (9 a.m.) via Zoom throughout the fall semester. You may register for one or all of the sessions!
